More about Lulu later… But first, let me tell you about the first love of my life. I am happily married to my beautiful wife Connie. We live in a suburb of Vancouver, USA. We were both raised to believe that we should get a “secure job” with a “good company.” My wife worked hard, climbing the corporate ladder, at one point working for the 7th largest corporation in the U.S. (remember Enron?). I spent 30 years working as an Applications Engineer, only to have my corporation move my job to the Far East.
Our bosses wanted to control most every aspect of our lives… how many hours per day we worked (10 hours minimum)… how much money we made… how big of raises we received (2-3%)… how much vacation time we were allowed… when we were allowed to take our vacations… and all the while we were supposed to consider ourselves lucky to have jobs!
I’ve Heard It Said That There Are No Accidents… To That I Say “B.S.”
There were a couple of events that helped to increase my pain, finally getting my attention. One such event occurred while I was building a fence (so that Lulu could have the run of the yard). After a long day of running cedar boards through the table saw, I ran my thumb through the saw blade. That “accident” occurred one week before my birthday. The following year, on the exact same date, I had another “accident.” This accident involved me rolling my SUV over. Lulu went through this “rollover” with me, and this was when we really “bonded.” I crawled out of the wreckage, made my way over to the curb and sat down. I looked back and Lulu was in the back of the SUV, standing on the ceiling. She walked out through the opening where the glass used to be… came over, sat at my feet and wouldn’t let anyone come near me… not the State Trooper nor the Paramedics! As my wife puts it… Lulu has me wrapped around her (not so) little paw!
What Next… Decapitation?
In 2006 I decided that, rather than wait and see what kind of “accident” the Universe had up her sleeve, I would “retire” myself from Corporate America. After leaving my J.O.B., I spent a few months contemplating “what I want to be when I grow up.” And what did my due diligence come up with but Internet Marketing. That meant climbing up a very steep learning curve of Squeeze Pages, Autoresponders, Niches, Web 2.0, Spiders, AdWords, AdSense, HTML, URL, ISP, SEO, PPC… just to name (quite) a few!
